Summary Feedback:

The Health Factory Protein Bread (Multi Protein) is another product in the ‘high protein alternative’ market.

To its credit, the product does contain close to 20 grams of protein per 100 grams, which is more or less double of what is contained 100 grams of regular bread. We also like the fact that this product contains protein from multiple sources, rather than having just one protein source.

However, the product also contains 4.09 grams of sugar per 100 grams, which is quite unnecessary for bread! This is especially problematic in India, where many people may not know or expect their bread to have sugar and the sugar from various sources tends to add up, and creates addiction/cravings for such specific foods.

foodnetindia Rating:

foodnetindia Safety Rating: 5 (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unsafe to very safe)

While we would have otherwise given this product a higher rating, we are forced to lower it because of the unnecessary sugar content.

foodnetindia Wholesomeness Rating: 6 (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unbalanced nutrition profile to excellent nutrition profile)

This product does contain a fair amount of protein and we have therefore given it a higher rating than we would give to ordinary bread, which is mostly simple carbs.

However, it is still not a substitute for a whole meal which must include lots of vegetables and healthy fats. This should be consumed in small to moderate quantities as a part of a balanced diet. We recommend sticking to the serving size of two slices in a meal.

Ingredients of Concern:

• Cane Sugar
• Salt

Cane Sugar:

This product contains twice the amount of sugar as regular bread. This is a problem especially in India where many people are unaware that savoury products like bread also contain sugar.

A diet high in sugar can result in several lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and obesity.

We hope that the brand reduces the sugar content of the product.

Salt:

The product contains salt but does not mention the amount. We do not believe that this is a responsible practice, no matter how small the quantity of salt may be.

  1. Just tried the protein bread
This is just a marketing con.
India is on the verge of americanisation of Ordinary things. Modern and Brittania bread is the same at one quarter of the price with the same junk additives and colorants. Taste is simply awful. Packaging is 100% fantastic. Sold to a gullible uninformed public. Big words like isolate and concentrate. Better they abdicate. Chor business.
