
It appears that the Government has finally accepted that caloric sufficiency does not make a meal nutritious.
An inter-ministerial committee has recommended a significant increase in the protein and micronutrient content of midday meals.
The committee has advised that eggs, nuts, legumes and micronutrients like calcium, iron, zinc, folate and vitamin A be legally mandated in meals given in schools and anganwadis.
