Summary Feedback

Epigamia Chocolate Protein Milk Shake is advertised as a high protein drink, with 12 grams of protein per serving.

However, with 23 grams of sugar per serving, the product should be advertised as a dessert, like any other milk shake. It should, under no circumstances, be consumed in the manner in which it is being advertised, i.e., as a snack, or as a replacement for protein powders.

We at foodnetindia are appalled by this irresponsible and misleading advertising and hope that action is taken against the brand.

foodnetindia Rating:

foodnetindia Safety Rating: 2 (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unsafe to very safe)

The protein content of the product is not relevant to its safety rating.

What is relevant is the sugar content, which is almost the entire recommended daily allowance for an adult.

The product, with 194 mg, also has a relatively high salt content.

We strongly discourage people from consuming this product as anything other than a very occasional treat.

foodnetindia Wholesomeness Rating: 5 (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unbalanced nutrition profile to excellent nutrition profile)

We have treated this product as a dessert while giving it a wholesomeness rating.

Consumed purely as a dessert, it makes for a high protein alternative to a regular milkshake.

Ingredients of Concern in Epigamia Chocolate Protein Milk Shake:

  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Natural Flavouring Substance

Sugar:

This product contains 23 grams of sugar in a 180 ml serving, which is extremely high. What is worse is that most of the sugar (15 gm) is added sugar.

We hope that the brand reduces the sugar content of the product.

Salt:

One serving of this product contains 10% of a person’s recommended daily allowance of salt. We feel this is high for a product with a 180 ml serving size.

We also believe that the large amount of added sugar is being used to mask the taste of the salt.

Natural Flavouring Substance

This product does not specify the chemical name of the flavour, used and does not mention the quantity used either. While we understand that the legal labelling requirements allow this practice, we believe that responsible brands should self-disclose.

Some people are allergic to some of these chemicals and others may want to avoid them. Consumers have a right to know and decide.
