Lab grown meat is finally a reality. However, it is not a commercially viable technology yet.
I wonder how vegetarians will deal with lab grown meat from animal cells. Will they consider it vegetarian? I suppose people like me who are vegetarian on animal cruelty grounds will welcome lab grown meat.
But what about people who are vegetarian for religious or cultural reasons, like example Hindu vegetarian families? Will they consider it okay to eat such products?
And what about Muslims and Jews? Will such meat be considered halal or kosher?
Speaking from a food security and safety viewpoint, what is not to like? It’s environmentally friendly. It allows for food to be grown indoors without the problems of outdoor agriculture or animal rearing. It protects the food from disease and pests. It makes pesticides and antibiotics unnecessary.
I am waiting for inexpensive lab grown meat to be available.
