The Food Industry Capacity & Skill Initiative (FICSI) has launched an e-learning platform, ‘FICSI Online Training & Assessment Academy’, which provides certificate courses on ‘Safe Practises for Food Business Operators During the COVID-19 Pandemic’.
The courses have been designed in association with the FSSAI, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM).
At foodnetindia, we believe that initiatives like this one are essential to improving food safety in India. However, we feel that there will be a challenge in getting people in the FBO sector to actually take the courses. This is where Government support will be useful, because the Government has the power to make taking courses like this one mandatory for people working in the FBO sector. It can also promote these initiatives by providing incentives for organisations whose owners and employees complete the courses.
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in people giving far more importance to food safety than ever before. This is the perfect time for the Government and private industry to take steps to improve food safety and hygiene practises in the food manufacturing and processing sector.
