As a recent article in the Deccan Herald notes, Indian diets are woefully protein deficient. 

Even more unfortunately, unlike the West, a rise in disposable income has not really translated into an increase in protein consumption. This might explain why, even now, 40% of Indian children suffer from irreversible stunting.

India needs a fundamental shift away from a grain based diet to solve the stunting problem.
