By It appears that the Ganga only looks cleaner, but is not actually much cleaner during the lockdown. Industrial waste discolors the water, but domestic sewage is the major pollutant, and it has not come down at all.

There is a widespread superstitious belief amongst Hindus that the waters of the Ganga have some miraculous property that cause it to “clean itself”, and therefore is not rendered harmful for drinking or bathing as a result of pollution.
