Product Review: Get-A-Whey Keto Friendly Belgian Chocolate Ice-Cream

The product is a low carbohydrate dessert. The addition of whey isolate makes it a high protein dessert. This kind of product is a good fit for people on a ketogenic diet and who are in a state of ketosis. 

It contains a high fat content of 22 gm per 100 gm of the product. High fat consumption does not work the same way for people who are not in ketosis and who are not on a ketogenic diet. A diet high in both carbohydrates and fat is quite damaging and can accelerate obesity and therefore lifestyle diseases.

Erythritol is a sugar alcohol food additive, its known side effects for regular use of erythritol are stomach rumbling, nausea, and diarrhea in higher doses of over 50 gm.

The product is a safe food for people on a ketogenic diet.  But for people who are not on a ketogenic diet, as a high fat product, we would label it as an HFSS product and not consider it as safe for regular snacking. However, as the product is clearly marketed as a keto friendly snack, we do not consider such HFSS labelling necessary.

Unfortunately, the product also contains a small amount of toxic trans fat, due to which we are forced to give it a safety lower rating. We recommend that the manufacturer remove the trans fats from the product.

Trans Fats

Trans fats are harmful to health. Trans fats increase the likelihood of heart disease, stroke, cancer and many other ailments.

Trans fats have been shown to consistently be associated, in an intake-dependent way, with risk of coronary heart disease, the leading cause of death. They may also be responsible for alzheimer’s disease, cancer, liver disease and many more ailments.

Added Flavours and Colours:

This food product does not specify which flavours or flavouring substances have been used. 

The flavours should be specified as some of them have serious side effects and may not be suitable for infants, pregnant women or people who are allergic. We believe that it is not responsible behaviour for a brand to avoid clearly stating what ingredients have been used.

By not specifying what these flavours and substances are, we are forced to consider what they are hiding and why would they be so reluctant to mention what they have used in the food product!

By this behaviour, these manufacturers expose people to possible allergens or toxins that could be avoided if consumers knew what they were.
