Americans today are fatter than they were in the 70’s, despite consuming fewer calories. This piece of data is amazing, and single handedly throws out the “excess calories” theory of obesity.
Its the same problem in India, in my opinion. It is the increase in grain (wheat and rice), potato, and sugar consumption that’s driving up abdominal obesity and diabetes numbers in India.
Eat more leafy and non starchy vegetables. Eat more dairy, eggs & meat. Eat less rice, wheat, potatoes, and sweet stuff. These three things should be the new dietary recommendation for Indians.
