Drinking very hot tea or coffee can double your risk of oesophageal cancer. The risk of oesophageal cancer is also greatly elevated in people who suffer from acid reflux disease (GERD).

Many people I know like to have their tea or coffee piping hot, and often gulp it down in a manner that takes the hot liquid down their gullets.

A better idea would be to have your drink warm, but not piping hot, or to enjoy your hot drink in small sips and cool it in your mouth before swallowing.
