Adulteration of food that we buy in India is an unfortunate fact of life.
I was shocked to read recently that over 75 percent of all milk sold in India has a quality problem. Here is a news item –
This extends to many other things like grain, spices, pulses, flour, and more.
The FSSAI has published a booklet of simple tests, that can be done at home, to detect adulteration in food.
