Summary feedback
Reliance Choco flakes is a sugary breakfast cereal with a chocolate flavor eaten by kids and adults alike.
The primary ingredient is whole wheat flour (40%) and the secondary ingredient is wheat flour (18%) or maida. That means that Reliance choco flakes is mostly simple starch which is not recommended as a breakfast replacement for anyone and not at all recommended for those with weight issues and lifestyle diseases.
The product is high on sugar at 33 gm per serving size of 100 gm! This is very high for a product sold as a breakfast meal replacement and not safe for diabetics and obese people, and our recommendation is that even healthy kids and adults must eat this very sparingly and never as a meal or breakfast replacement. It is best to eat it as a dessert and that too very occasionally.
The foodnetindia rating for this product :-
foodnetindia safety rating: 2 -(On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unsafe to very safe)
Reliance Choco flakes cannot be considered as a safe breakfast replacement as it is sugary at 33 gm per 100 gm of the product and is simple starch heavy with poor nutritional diversity. As most people who consume this product do so as a meal replacement and not as a dessert, we are forced to give this a low safety rating.
foodnetindia wholesomeness rating: 2– (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unbalanced nutrition profile to excellent nutrition profile)
This food is very starchy and sugary with very little nutritional diversity. This should be eaten only as a small part of an otherwise wholesome meal plan that includes abundant protein, vegetables, fruit and healthy fats.
Ingredients of concern in Reliance Choco flakes
Sugar
Reliance choco flakes contains 33 gm sugar per 100 gm and does not specify which sugar has been used. This is important because different sugars have different metabolic effects. For example, Sucrose (Cane Sugar) is very different from Fructose (Fruit Sugar). Some foods use high fructose corn syrup which may be harmful in much lower quantities than sucrose. We believe that it is not responsible behaviour for a brand to not clearly state what ingredients have been used. Excessive sugar consumption is linked to a wide variety of metabolic diseases.
Other ingredients that are in the product but not a major source of concern in our opinion are:
- Wheat Solids (58%Whole Wheat flour-40% and Wheat Flour (18%)),
- Cocoa Solids (5%)
- Malt Extract,
- Antioxidant (320)
