Summary Feedback

Monsoon Harvest Choco Chip Oat Clusters & Ragi Flakes with Banana contains rolled oats, choco chips, banana, and several different millets and seeds.

The product has a very high sugar (palm jaggery) content of 7.28 gm per serving. Also people like to add more sugar to their breakfast cereals, making it more sugary and unsafe for themselves.

With a high content of whole grains in the product, it is high on starch as well. This, combined with sugar and fairly low protein in a meal replacement is not a very good thing for people who are obese or those with lifestyle disease.

The foodnetindia rating for this product :-

foodnetindia safety rating: 5  – (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unsafe to very safe)

In India the concept of breakfast cereals like Muesli is gaining popularity due to aggressive marketing, and the perception among the masses that it is healthy and safe.

We at foodnetindia feel that this kind of product, which consists predominantly of whole grains and a little fruit with added sugar, is definitely not healthier. We recommend that it should not be consumed as a meal replacement, but as a part of an otherwise healthy and nutritionally diverse meal.

foodnetindia wholesomeness rating: 6  – (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unbalanced nutrition profile to excellent nutrition profile)

We would have given the product, with it’s mixture of grains, nuts and seeds, a higher rating, however, we don’t like the fact that it has a high sugar content of 7.28  gm per serving of 40 gm. Due to this high sugar content, we cannot recommend this product for people suffering from obesity or lifestyle diseases. We will not recommend it as a wholesome meal replacement even for healthy, as it is protein deficient and packs a lot of sugar and starch.

Ingredients of Concern in Monsoon Harvest Choco Chip Oat Clusters & Ragi Flakes with Banana

Palm Jaggery

Many people believe that products like jaggery and honey are safer alternatives to processed sugar, because it is unprocessed. This is not true. Excessive consumption of jaggery has all the problems associated with high sugar consumption, such as obesity, diabetes, and other lifestyle diseases. Furthermore, in a product like this one, people tend to add more sugar, making it even more unsafe.
