Britannia Milk Masti cake is one of the most popular cakes in India, available at many retail outlets and supermarkets. This sugary cake has a great flavour but beware it is packed with preservatives and high levels of sugar approximately, 30 gm per 100 gm of cake. It also has 20 gm of fat in it, along with 3 gm of trans fat. We do not recommend this product for diabetics and those suffering from lifestyle diseases.

In the bakery industry, hydrogenated vegetable oils,which are the source of trans-fats, are widely used and since Britannia Milk Masti is also made using hydrogenated vegetable oil, it definitely contains trans-fats which are bad for anyone trying to avoid lifestyle diseases. The high sugar and simple carbohydrate content is also a source of concern.

It is a product containing milk and eggs which are nutritious. However, the product has a lot of sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oils as well. This is not a wholesome addition to a meal or a meal replacement. We recommend that this product be eaten only by healthy people who do not already have any lifestyle diseases, and that too in small quantities.

Edible vegetable oil
This food product does not specify which edible vegetable oil has been used. We believe that it is not responsible behaviour for a brand to avoid clearly stating what ingredients have been used.
Certain vegetable oils contain very large amounts of biologically active fats called Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which could be harmful in excess. Excess polyunsaturated fats may react with oxygen and oxidised Omega-6 fats can damage body functions and perhaps even vital structures like DNA. In addition, consumers need clear information about the type of vegetable oil used, so that they can take action to maintain a healthy balance between Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acid consumption.
In addition, some people may be allergic to specific oils. Food allergies can sometimes be life threatening.
Hydrogenated vegetable oil
Partially Hydrogenated and Hydrogenated fats are a source of trans fatty acids or “trans fats”, which are harmful to health. Trans fats increase the likelihood of heart disease, stroke, cancer and many other ailments.
Trans fats have been shown to consistently be associated, in an intake-dependent way, with risk of coronary heart disease, the leading cause of death. They may also be responsible for alzheimer’s disease, cancer, liver disease and many more ailments.
Aluminium sulphate is a natural mineral, from which the commercial product is purified. Aluminium sulphate is used to precipitate protein, for example during the beer brewing process. It also strengthens the structure of vegetables during processing. Found in beer, pickled vegetables, proteins (deodorant, as anti-bacterial agent).
Aluminium inhibits the uptake of B-vitamins. It may also influence liver function in high concentrations. Aluminium has also been linked to increased risk of alzheimers disease.
Sorbitols IN 420
Sorbitols are derived from glucose, either obtained from berries of the Sorbus aucuparia tree or synthesised. They are used in confectionary, dried fruit, pastries, low calorie foods, pharmaceutical syrups and ophthalmic preparations and is the seventh most widely used preservative in cosmetics. Sorbitols are not permitted in foods for infants and young children, as they can cause gastric disturbance. Four pieces of low-joule chewing gum can make a child seriously ill.
Not recommended for diabetics or people with fructose intolerance.
