The Odisha government asked district health officials to collect soft drinks samples in the state after heavy metals were found in different soft drinks in other states.
The State Food Safety Commissioner has asked the additional district medical officers and city health officers to collect samples for tests and analysis. A health official said they have already collected three samples from Bhubaneswar and sent them to the State Public Health Laboratory for testing.
These steps were undertaken after Union Minister of State for Health, Kulaste informed the Rajya Sabha that lead and other heavy metals like cadmium and chromium were found in five different soft drinks manufactured by two major multinational companies in India.
