Mother Dairy Mishti Dai is a popular sweetened yoghurt brand available in India.
It contains wholesome milk and milk solids in it which is good and it doesn’t have any preservatives. However, it contains a very high amount of sugar – 22.5 gm in a 100 gm serving pack. 100 grams of the product give you an entire days quota of sugar!
Many People consume this product assuming that it is good for health and we do not think any product with so much added sugar is healthy for anyone. High sugar consumption for many people is unsafe.

We are concerned about the high amount of sugar in this product, we would therefore not advise even healthy people to consume this very sparingly. People at risk of lifestyle disease must not consume such high sugar products. High sugar consumption can cause obesity, diabetes and a host of other lifestyle diseases including cancer.
Also, for a product that specifically talks up the lack of preservatives, we do not understand why it contains added colour in it.

We like the fact that this product contains healthy and nutritional milk and milk solids, but we don’t like the fact that there is high amount of added sugar in the product which makes it possibly unhealthy and unsafe for many people.

Different sugars have different metabolic effects. For example, Sucrose (Cane Sugar) is very different from Fructose (Fruit Sugar). Some foods use high fructose corn syrup which may be harmful in much lower quantities than sucrose. We believe that it is not responsible behaviour for a brand to not clearly state what ingredients have been used.
