Summary feedback
Delmonte Elbow Pasta is made with 100% durum wheat semolina which is the hardest form of wheat and has the highest amount of protein and gluten than any other form of wheat.
The product label does not mention any preservatives or artificial flavours in it, which is appreciated.
The foodnetindia Safety rating for this product :-
foodnetindia safety rating: 8 (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unsafe to very safe)
This pasta pack is high in grain based simple starches and can cause obesity and a host of lifestyle diseases if eaten in large quantities as the primary ingredient of a meal. As long as the calories from this food are not over 30% of a meal and the rest of it comes from protein and healthy fats; this is fine.
foodnetindia wholesomeness rating: 5 (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unbalanced nutrition profile to excellent nutrition profile)
This food is predominantly a high simple starch product and if ample amount of vegetables, protein and healthy fats are not included in a meal of this pasta, we would not consider it wholesome at all.
In India, people tend to consume foods like this as the primary meal component with over 70% of meal calories from this pasta and very little added nutrient diversity. This consumption pattern is the reason for our reduced wholesomeness rating.
Ingredients of concern in Delmonte food craft elbow pasta
Gluten
A significant proportion of the population is gluten intolerant, either because they suffer from Celiac disease (1% of the population) or gluten sensitivity, which is quite common. Many people who suffer from gluten intolerance may be asymptomatic and may be unaware that they suffer from systemic and chronic inflammation due to their gluten intolerance.
Gluten intolerance has also been linked to autoimmune diseases, cancers, intestinal inflammation, degeneration of the intestinal lining and has even been linked to several mental illnesses (either as a cause or exacerbating factor) the most serious being cerebellar ataxia, a serious disease of the brain that involves an inability to coordinate balance, movements, problems talking, etc. Persons diagnosed with schizophrenia, autism, Alzheimer’s, etc., have been known to respond well to a gluten free diet.
Other ingredients that are in the product but not a major source of concern in our opinion are:
Durum Wheat Semolina
