special-k-150x150 Kellogs-Special-K-2-150x150
Summary feedback
Special K cereal, manufactured by Kellogg, advertises itself as a way to lose weight.
We are not impressed by the choice of ingredients in Special K as its glycemic load is high and nutrition is low. This is not a good replacement for a wholesome meal.  The sugar content is 7.5 gm per 30 gm of the cereal which is high and not suitable for diabetics and obese people. The calorie content is 144 KCal per 30 gm serving of the cereal with 120 ml of skim milk, but this is an unrealistically small portion size recommendation and most people will not be satiated with such a small serving and will eat much more. In addition, many people add even more sugar while consuming it.
Eaten in the quantities that would be a meal replacement for most people, this food would not be safe for obese people or diabetics. Frequent consumption as a meal replacement would not be advisable even for healthy people. We recommend that this food be consumed only by healthy people and that too as a small portion of an otherwise nutritious and complete meal plan. .
The foodnetindia rating for this product :-

This food is not nutritionally diverse, consisting mostly of grain and sugar. This is not a suitable meal replacement. This can be eaten as a small part of an otherwise nutritious meal plan.
Ingredients in Kelloggs Special K which are a concern:
Liquid Glucose
Iodized Salt
Kelloggs Special K contains 7.5 gm of sugar, this food product does not specify which sugar has been used. This is important because different sugars have different metabolic effects. For example, Sucrose (Cane Sugar) is very different from Fructose (Fruit Sugar). Some foods use high fructose corn syrup which may be harmful in much lower quantities than sucrose.  We believe that it is not responsible behaviour for a brand to not clearly state what ingredients have been used.
Liquid Glucose
Glucose syrup, also known as confectioner’s glucose, is a syrup made from the hydrolisis of starch. Glucose is a sugar.
Iodized Salt
High sodium diets have been known to be the cause of high blood pressure, heart disease, etc. The recommended daily intake of salt is between 1-3 grams.
Ingredients present in Kelloggs Special K which are not a concern
Rice 36.15%
Whole Wheat 33.24%
Wheat Bran 4.74%
