Summary feedback

Baggry’s Crunchy Muesli; Fruit and Nut with Cranberries, is a muesli with a selection of 9 different fruits & nuts blended with British oats.

It has a high fibre content of 7.2 gm per 100 gm which is good.

With a high content of whole grains in the product, it is high on the starch as well, which is not a very good thing for people who are obese or those with lifestyle disease.

The product has a high sugar (sucrose) content of 11.9 gm per 100 gm which we feel is neither warranted nor required as it already contains 30% fruits, nuts & berries in it. Also people like to add more sugar to their breakfast cereal and by doing so they make it more sugary and unsafe for themselves.

The foodnetindia rating for this product :-

foodnetindia safety rating: 4 – (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unsafe to very safe)

In India the concept of breakfast cereals like Muesli is gaining popularity due to aggressive marketing and the perception among the masses that it is healthy and safe.

We at foodnetindia feel that this product is a mixture of whole grains and fruit with added sugar and is not necessarily healthier or better. In fact it is high on starch and sugar which is not an ideal way to kickstart the day.

foodnetindia wholesomeness rating: 4 – (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unbalanced nutrition profile to excellent nutrition profile)

We would have considered the product wholesome and nutritious with its whole grains and 30% fruits, nuts & berries providing a high fibre content. However, we don’t like the fact that it has a high sugar content of 11.9 gm per 100 gm which is not recommended for obese people and those with lifestyle diseases.

Ingredients in Baggry’s Crunchy Muesli-Fruit and Nut with Cranberries which are a concern:

Sugar

This food product contains 11.9 gm per 100 gm, it does not specify which sugar has been used. This is important because different sugars have different metabolic effects. For example, Sucrose (Cane Sugar) is very different from Fructose (Fruit Sugar). Some foods use high fructose corn syrup which may be harmful in much lower quantities than sucrose.  We believe that it is not responsible behaviour for a brand to not clearly state what ingredients have been used.
