Sundrop Peanut Butter is a calorie-dense product with a rich addictive taste due to which consumers eat it in large quantities which is problematic because of the high omega 6 content in peanut oil and the widely existing lack of balance between omega 6 and omega 3 consumption amongst the population.
The foodnetindia rating for this product :-
foodnetindia safety rating: 6 (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unsafe to very safe)
This product unlike its peers does not contain added edible vegetable oils or harmful preservatives and we like that.
The product is eaten in large quantities and adds to the Omega 6 imbalance that is already widely prevalent. This and the added sugar are the reasons for a lower safety rating than we would otherwise give this product as a stand alone.
foodnetindia wholesomeness ratin : 7 (On a scale of 1 to 10 from very unbalanced nutrition profile to excellent nutrition profile)
Peanuts are high in fibre, nutrient dense and a healthy wholesome food. Studies show that people including nuts in their diet lower their risk of developing type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Ingredients of concern in Sundrop Peanut Butter
Certain manufacturers do not mention the quantity of salt contained in their products. High sodium diets have been known to be the cause of high blood pressure, heart disease, etc. The recommended daily intake of salt is between 1-3 grams.
Sugar and edible molasses
This food product contains 6 gm sugar per 30 gm serving. It does not specify which sugar has been used. This is important because different sugars have different metabolic effects. For example, Sucrose (Cane Sugar) is very different from Fructose (Fruit Sugar). Some foods use high fructose corn syrup which may be harmful in much lower quantities than sucrose. We believe that it is not responsible behaviour for a brand to not clearly state what ingredients have been used.
Other ingredients that are in the product but not a major source of concern in our opinion are:
- Roasted Peanuts
- Stabilizer (Mono and Diglycerides of fatty acids)
