Edible cutlery may be the perfect answer to harmful plastic disposables like spoons, bowls and plates.
According to Narayana Peesapaty from Hyderabad, the designer of edible spoons made from millet flour, “FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) talks about food safety in India. FDA (Food and Drug Administration US) talks about how food is to be prepared hygienically. “But for some reasons, law anywhere in the world is absolutely silent on the hygiene of the utensils used to serve your food or the unhygienic reuse of cutlery.”
He further added that plastic spoons are very unhygienic as no one washes a plastic spoon which is basically coated with lubricating oil used in the plastic cutlery mould, this cutlery, is a by-product of petroleum and contains many neuro-toxins and carcinogens which slowly enter the human body. On the other hand edible cutlery made of millets contains nutrients and no preservatives and also has a shelf life of more than 3 years.
