Packaged Water from Purifying Plants are a Sham

An investigation by Eenadu, a leading Telegu daily, into the safety of packaged drinking water in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana revealed shocking results. After testing all the water samples that it had collected from the two states at a laboratory, it was found that most had deadly bacteria and other harmful impurities, and were unfit for consumption.

The report published said that about 20,000 unlicensed “water purifying plants” were supplying polluted and unsafe water to the people in the two states.

The study also said that one third of the samples that Eenadu tested contained E-coli, a faecal bacteria found in the intestines of humans and animals, that causes diarrhoea. Other samples contained hazardous contaminants including pseudomonas, salmonella and staphylococcus. Samples collected from Hyderabad were found to be polluted with sewage water.

It is very difficult for people to check if the bottled water they are drinking is really safe as many dubious water purifying companies copy the ISI mark and also other licences.
