Among alcoholic drinks, whiskey, vodka, gin, beer and even breezer will come under the proposed standards, the official said.
Earlier this year, a meeting of the Central Advisory Committee had also discussed having standards for alcohol and alcoholic beverages. It was decided that once standards for alcohol and alcoholic beverages were finalised it shall be intimated to all states and UTs so that they may suitably advise the respective excise departments.
At foodnetindia, we believe that this is already much delayed and we welcome this initiative. We also request the regulator to impose comprehensive labelling requirements so that every ingredient, flavour or additives, howsoever minor, must be mentioned on the label. Our food labelling laws are too lax and brands are able to get away by not labelling many of the flavours, colours or preservatives or other additives used.
